Hammerhead Sharks

A Hammerhead is a type of shark. Its Latin name is shpyrnidae.

Description
Hammerhead sharks heads look like big hammers, that’s how they got their name. They grow to be about 5 metres long. They are grey on the bottom and their tail fin is long on the top and short on the bottom.

Habitat
Hammerhead sharks like to live in the warm part of the ocean and near the shore. They like to swim near other fish that clean them by coral reefs.

Dynamics
People breathe air but hammerhead sharks breathe by moving so that water moves through their gills. They have to keep swimming so they can breathe. They move their head from side to side looking for things to eat.

Diet
Hammerhead sharks eat lots of fish except for Zebra Fish that clean them.  They also eat stingrays and octopus – they think they are really scrumptious.

If people see Hammerhead sharks they should not catch and eat them. They should let them back into the water where they should live.

Scalloped hammerhead sharks are endangered so we should try not to kill them.
